I think I left my apartment a total of four times this weekend and I was done with work on Friday at 2pm. I’ll let you do the math on that one. Hint hint I was in pants with some sort of an elastic waist band the majority of the weekend. I’ve always felt like a shut in during the winter months but ever since I started working a 9-5 desk job they’ve knocked me down harder than ever before.
So, I am taking some of my own advice and some advice from a dear friend of mind by starting to make my own plans to do things solo-dolo or asking friends to tag along. Here’s my latest list of winter time activities to help you, and me, battle the blues.
Try a new coffee shop.
The Columbus coffee bar scene has exploded in recent years. Whether you’re a student looking for that niche place to study, an aspiring blogger or author, or a caffeine connoisseur there are plenty of places to try. This morning I tried Fox in the Snow in Italian Village. Now, if you’re a Columbus native I can hear you gasp through the computer screen. I know I am the last person to hop on this band wagon. The atmosphere, pastries, and cappuccinos are out-of-this world and completely insta-friendly if that’s you’re thing.
Try a new bar for the live music AND a good drink.
I was recently rescued from feeling like a shut-in when I friend invited me to join her at a small local bar for an open mic night. The performers sang soulful covers of hit songs and lulled us into the weekend. That kind of music may not be your cup of tea but I guarantee there’s a bar near you with aspiring artists that will give you the escape you’re looking for. Plus, it’s a nice change up from going to a bar and just grabbing a drink while today’s top hits serves as background noise.
Shop for your weekly groceries at a new market.
Click-list grocery pick up has amplified my home-body persona ten fold. But, on the off chance motivation strikes I do enjoy checking out new local grocery shops as lame and motherly as that sounds. There’s something about fresher produce and unique staples that can renew your interest in cooking or your commitment to a healthier lifestyle. At the very least, it can get you out of your apartment and in public so you’ll have to put pants and a bra on.
If all else fails and you’re still feeling the drag of the lack of sunlight then book yourself a long weekend trip if you have the funds for it. There’s nothing like having a trip or an escape to look forward to.
Have a great week!
