One of my favorite things about the holidays is the cooking. Not the eating, but the passing down of family recipes and sharing of meals. My family tends to go all out for these celebrations. We definitely over indulge because we have drinks, wine, appetizers, main course, side dishes, and plenty of dessert options.
Traditionally, my mother hosts our extended family at her house for a Christmas celebration. It’s a lot of work to host everyone! We have to cook, clean, shop, prep, and keep everyone as happy as possible during their time at our house! This year we pulled out a couple of special family recipe cards to incorporate into our meal. I decided to share some of these cards with you all!
Dessert 1: Chocolate Cupcakes
This recipe was past to us by a local baker in town. So, technically not a family recipe but still a special one. These were served at both mine and my sisters graduation parties and they are a HIT every single time. It’s a rich chocolate cake with a fluffy chocolate frosting.
Dessert 2: Peanut Butter Blossoms
This recipe is pretty easy to come by and has a ton of variations! Our family loves peanut butter, especially the kids so it’s a crowd pleaser. I didn’t manage to get a picture of the final product on this one but my insta story highlights the process!
Dessert 3: Christmas Cookie Cutouts
My grandparents are obsessed with these! We have a great time decorating these. This year we prepped the cookies and are leaving as an activity for my grandmother to do with her grandkids! Stay tuned for final pictures of these beauties tomorrow!
Specialty Beverage: This year we stumbled on a recipe that my mom’s friend passed to her years ago. It’s a cognac slushy! This one was fairly easy to make. You heat water, tea bags, and sugar to boiling then let cool. Once cool add in 2 cups of cognac (you can use vodka or gin if you prefer) and add in frozen orange juice and lemonade. Toss in the freezer overnight before serving.
